Description:
Two pilot RBF projects (2009-2011 and 2016-2017) in Mali yielded favorable results:
- 2009-2011. An RBF project in three districts of the Koulikoro region funded by the Netherlands, in agreement with the Government of Mali. It lasted 18 months.
- 2016 – 2017. A World Bank-funded FBR project funded by the World Bank over a period of 18 months. The project involved the ten districts of Koulikoro region covering a population of 3.1 million. The project was only executed over 8 months. Despite this short period of implementation, the preparatory activities were conducted as: a. The establishment of procedures manuals; b. The development of tools; c. The training of the actors and the setting up of the portal FBR.
Following an analysis of strengths and problems, the Mali government decided to continue the implementation of the RBF in the context of achieving universal health coverage. Financing (IDA and GFF) is announced by the World Bank for the period 2019-2023 of 60 million dollars for three regions (Koulikoro, Sikasso, and Mopti) with a total of 9.8 million inhabitants.
