Start: 2008
Phase: Small pilots started since 2008
Coverage Estimate: 1%
Feasibility: Modest
Supported by: Cordaid; Clinton Foundation
Description: Many Tanzanians were trained in PBF during SINA courses but also during Cordaid organized PBF conferences and study visits. There is enthusiasm. Yet, so far no well-designed PBF approach. The current P4P initiative (with support of the Clinton Foundation) is encouraging but has a uncommon design (the purchase of percentage point coverage increase without quality measures). The pilot has also a very limited output budget. EGPAF is in the process of lobbying for a new PBF initiative in Tanzania. It appears the Ministry of Health is willing to go along. This would create a break through and SINA Health will support these efforts during 2013.
